Hurricane Irma evacuee cat lost in hotel parking lot. Found by Atlanta cat detective after 3 weeks missing.
Weeks after locals had searched and trapped, I went to Athens, GA for 24 hours to find Terry's cat, Fluffy
I heard about a hurricane Irma cat who'd been lost in a parking lot. Several local savvy /crazy cat ladies had gone in to assist with no luck.
Fluffy had been missing 3 weeks when I drove up from Atlanta to search. I was there 24 hours straight to find that kitty!
The first clue breakthrough came as I was walking up the stairs (see pics) and got a whiff of chemicals. The assumption she'd be hiding under the Embers deck near PLS was thrown out; if the smell was offensive to me, I knew it would be intolerable for a cat.
We began moving outward on the zone I had outlined, and then came Clue #2: some white hairs caught under a storm drain lid. Too soft for raccoon or opossum. Terry agreed it might be Fluffy's fur and saved them in a baggie.
Following the tunnel led to a stand of bamboo and storage building with no apparent recent human activity. I felt like I had discovered gold-- Fluffy had to be in this area. And she was!
She appeared briefly in the bamboo for Terry and meowed. So exciting! But she would not come close, so the trap was key. Local Cat ladies KeLLY AND LIZ showed up in a team effort to get this cat recovered and safely transferred into a carrier for the trip back south to Baxley GA.
Fluffy is now home!
This is a prime example of a cat who would never have been found by posting flyers or Pawboost or shares on social media. This case was definitely a case for the lost cat finder.
Some cats and some cases need a trained pet detective, and this was definitely one of them!
Happy lost cat found reunion, Terry and Fluffy!
Love and purrs to everyone in Athens, GA who helped Terry during this stressful tragedy.
